At Angama Amboseli, we've made staying healthy a fun-filled adventure with our quarterly Fitness Challenges. But this isn’t just about push-ups and sprints; it’s about coming together as a team and living by the values we hold dear: Respect, Courage, Honesty and, of course, Joy.
When a staff member joins Angama Amboseli, they are assigned to a team based on one of our core values. So, naturally, when it's time for the Fitness Challenge, these values shape who you're competing for. The team captains decide who'll represent them in each event, adding a fun strategic twist. But first and foremost, this is all about fun and fitness, not just winning (although bragging rights are definitely up for grabs).
The events take various forms, from relay races and push-ups to tug-of-war and arm wrestling. We can’t forget the sprinting race — but with a unique twist: only those with a 'Kitambi' (big tummy) can enter. Yes, an actual tape measure was involved, as the race is hotly contested. Khalid from Housekeeping took the crown for Team Joy, while Patrick Bwire of Team Courage gave it his all.
Khalid didn’t stop there; he also dominated the arm wrestling — it is good to know that the Housekeeping team is safe in such capable, strong hands. The push-up contest was equally intense, with Daniel Mbararia (Team Respect) claiming first place, just ahead of Paul Kikiyaa from Team Joy.
One of the most memorable moments had to be the ladies’ arm-wrestling showdown. Naomi Silantoi, proudly representing Team Respect, faced Esther Nekupasi from Team Joy — and came out on top. There was a lot of cheering, laughter, and good-natured teasing all around. Moments like these make our Fitness Challenges special – we’re not just sweating but building something much deeper.
This challenge is one of the many ways we promote a healthy lifestyle for our team, which we see as essential for them to thrive and deliver exceptional guest experiences. Fitness at Angama Amboseli isn’t just a quarterly event either — we regularly check in on our team’s health, and often, you will find a member of the team skipping in the outdoor gym in the staff village in the morning. Anyone staying at Angama Amboseli is more than welcome to join in.
After all, when we are healthy, we are happy. And when we are happy, Angama guests feel it, too.
