The views at Angama Mara stretch for miles. Perched upon the Oloololo Escarpment 1,000ft above the plains of the Mara below, the name of the lodge was inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’ and no matter where in the lodge you are, you are guaranteed the best seat in the house.
On Top of the World
Set on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, there is little that is conventional about the creation of Angama Mara, with views that stretch as far as the eye can see across the Maasai Mara set 1,000ft below. The 700-hectare site directly borders the Mara Triangle, with 1.2km of Rift Valley frontage, its own forests and game a-plenty.
The rare beauty of the site has an emotional effect on visitors — an almost dreamlike quality of being somewhere ‘between heaven and earth’
Guests instantly connect with the romance of the setting, where some of the loveliest scenes from the movie ‘Out of Africa’ were filmed
No Tented Suite has the best view, nor the worst — all are spread along the edge of the Rift Valley
Unrivalled exclusivity with a private road directly into the Reserve — a mere 10-minute drive to the entrance
Enjoy your day the way you’d like to — whether it’s embarking on a morning hot-air balloon safari, photographing Africa’s rich wildlife during a game drive, strolling along the Great Rift Valley’s edge, or savouring local cuisine, these are a myriad of choices available to you.
We’re often asked, ‘How many days should one stay’? The truth is, there is never enough time, but the perfect stay might look something like this:
Both Angama Mara and Angama Safari Camp are just a short 45-minute flight from Kenya’s capital of Nairobi. Guests can travel on the multiple daily scheduled flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport, or opt for a private and convenient charter straight from Nairobi’s main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International.
Various international airlines, as well as the national carrier, Kenya Airways, offer direct flights to Jomo Kenyatta International from hubs all over the world.
Angama Mara is divided into two identical but completely separate camps, each with 15 en-suite Tented Suites. The Suites span over 100sqm, including the deck and feature 11m wide floor-to-ceiling glass frontage — offering views from everywhere. There are also two sets of two interconnected Tented Suites in each camp.
Children of all ages are welcome year round.
Kenya is classified as a malaria area. We recommend that guests contact their local medical clinic for professional advice, and that they obtain comprehensive travel insurance, including health cover, prior to travelling. Insect repellent is provided at all Angama properties.
The Mara enjoys a warm and temperate climate all year round. Summer months are October to April with temperatures of min 20˚C/68˚F and max 34˚C/94˚F; Winter is generally from May to September with temperatures varying between min 11˚C/52˚F and max 25˚C/77˚F. Rainfall generally occurs in brief afternoon thundershowers during the months of March to May and November to mid-December.

Early check-in and late check-out subject to availability.
The location is minutes away from all of the action in the Mara Triangle and our game drives well exceeded expectations. The views are gorgeous with prime real estate in the Mara. Every staff member went out of their way to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. All in one of the best experiences of our lives.
…This was our second visit to Angama Mara, and we had high expectations after our first visit… we were blown away! Our safari guide, Robert… went above and beyond to ensure our kids were having fun and helped us spot the elusive leopard! Doris, our camp manager, was an absolute gem! From arranging special treats for the kids to an amazing walking safari.
…I was astounded every day by the views, the animals, and the kindness and care of all the people there working as a team to manifest lifetime moments! I did not visit during the Migration because there are plenty of animals in March, especially lots of newborns – and I wanted to be there without the crowds and the heat! Staying [at Angama Mara] was like in a dream with the prove …
