Work-life blurring is happening daily with the constant ping of messaging apps, emails, and smartphones. The boundaries between work and personal life are fast becoming a distant memory while feeling overwhelmed at not having enough time in the day to get things done on the rise.
At Angama Safari Camp, you have nothing but time on your hands — and I mean that. WiFi access limited to just the Main Tent means you will not be waking up reaching for your phone before your eyes are even open. Instead, you will be reaching for a pair of binoculars as you might have been woken by the sound of buffalo munching the grass around your tent or the chuffing and grunts of a pride of lions as they walk past the camp. Trust me, it happened, and we have the video to prove it! But I digress. Let me take you back to the beginning...
The drive from the airstrip took no more than 45 minutes, and immediately, we were on safari: a lion taking a morning nap on a small river bank, an abundance of wildebeest and some elephants with their calves. Who says the Migration ends in September? It was still taking place as if the herds we saw had just forgotten it was time to return to Tanzania.
My first impression of Angama Safari Camp was of charm and delight, but I could not wrap my head around the fact that there was no fencing(!). But there was no need to be alarmed. We soon met a group of askari (rangers) who were there to patrol and protect us during our stay. Check — mind at ease.
The welcome from the entire Camp team was heartwarming, with smiles and 'Karibu's' (welcome in Swahili). We proceeded to the Main Tent, and I could not believe the setting was a tent: red leather couches, a well-stocked drinks trolley, perfectly cushioned chairs, and a Butler on hand to look after our every need.
But it was soon surpassed by our Tent... It was incredible: the kind of bed you never want to leave, fluffy towels in every size, the luxury of a flushing toilet, the hottest seven-minute shower imaginable — how is that even possible? — and every other amenity imaginable.
If you are longing for nights where your head hits the pillow to the sound of the wild right outside your door — without a single thought of work, your phone, or messages — Angama Safari Camp is the escape you have been searching for. Reminding us that time away to disconnect and reconnect is what really matters.
