Angama Mara is set on the very site where some of the most romantic scenes in Out of Africa were filmed, including the picnic scene featured on the movie’s poster. As a nod to that great love story, the lodge offers intimate picnics on the crest of the hill in the background. For the hopeless romantics and Out of Africa addicts, this experience is always a highlight of their stay.

Located in the heart of Maasailand, the guest experience at Angama Mara is synonymous with Maasai culture. There are many opportunities for our guests to interact with these remarkable people – both at the lodge and in the surrounding community. Dancing Maasai warriors, walks with a Naturalist and beading with the mamas are all experienced daily.

At Angama Mara we take pride in connecting children to the world’s beautiful wild places and the team delights in looking after our young guests. From beading with the mamas and learning the art of spear throwing with a Maasai warrior to baking bread or making ice-cream with the chefs, we have a jam-packed list of fun things for children to enjoy over and above safaris.

Floating effortlessly over the Maasai Mara in a hot air balloon is one of Africa’s iconic experiences: as the sun rises to the East, the Mara River winds and twists beneath you, and the great plains of Africa’s savannah open up below and in front of you, keep your binoculars ready to spot the wildlife lurking in the forests, or a pride of lions on an early morning hunt.
